Deep Silence

On her Wonderlands of Ceramic site Sonja says “I have been playing with mud for 25 years” and she certainly has. After finishing her studies at Belgrade University of Applied Arts and Design, department of Ceramics, Sonja returned to her native city of Banja Luka where she works as a professional ceramicist. Sonja has been featured in 9 solo exhibitions in her own country and taken part in many international exhibitions around the world; her works have won her numerous awards. In 2012, in cooperation with the Aquarius Agency, Sonja designed the statue of a hippopotamus for Hypo Bank, Klagenfurt, Austria.

All of her life Sonja’s world has been full of deep, rich dreams and tales, many of which have inspired her art pieces. Even the name of her shop “DeepSilence” conjures up magical images of the deep, underwater world mentioned on her etsy About page.

I hope you enjoy her lovely pieces as much as I have!

Please join me celebrating Sonja's beautiful pieces.

Crocheted Cotton Dishcloths

I've been admiring a friend's crocheted dishcloths. So a fews weeks ago I decided to make a few and try them out in my own kitchen. I fell in love. These cloths not only clean well, they're absorbent, don't fall apart, and I can just throw them in the washer with my regular laundry for cleaning and refreshing. For those that wash their dishes by hand and drain them in the dishwasher (I do), you know that puddle of water that accumulates on the door - this cloth soaks it all up.

A Good Way to Start the Day - Softly Lit Morning & A Cup of Tea

I’m the first one up and actually have time alone. I enjoy a quite house, the light coming softly through the windows, and a hot aromatic cup of tea. What a good way to contemplate the day!

Tea kettle on. My morning cup of tea or should I say two cups; one cups not enough. Out comes my favorite two cup mug, chai spice black tea, honey and very vanilla soy milk. Ummm! Time to sit back enjoy the tea, check my shops, and browse a little.

Some of my finds just happen to relate to Tea time:

Coffeepot, golden roses

Golden sugar bowl

Cups: a tea for two

What a lovely cof---, no, no. I'd use it as a tea pot. So what a lovely tea set. Browsing done. Where's that good book? It's time to say bye, curl up with book and tea, enjoy the rest of the morning!

The Unexpected - Vintage Style Doily

Two months ago the unexpected happened. My life was turned upside down, inside out. It meant a time, away from my business and blog, spent with family and a friend in need. Sometimes living, being a part of this thing called life, necessitates that we stretch leaps and bounds and place ourselves on a limb committed to others health and well-being. I’m thankful that I was found willing and able to be there.

If you’re a caregiver, you know that taking care of others can be both rewarding and stressful. Today, with our incomes stretched to the max, being there for those in need is an important family value which sometimes extends beyond the family boundary to friends as well. It’s during these times that taking care of yourself is important.

Part of taking care of myself means doing things that bring enjoyment while providing stress relief, like photography, crochet, needlework, sewing, and even cleaning. There’s something about creating or doing things that bring immediate results and make you feel good. Cleaning a clean, fresh space. Crochet, an algorithm of stitch types that yield a beautiful pattern. You get the idea.

Above is the lovely vintage style doily created during my hiatus, not only a work of art, but a piece of self-preservation, healing, heaped with mounds of love and prayer.

Enjoy!
